Kids Are Cruel
People say depression or suicide attempts are something you can just get over.
Something that is just meaningless, forgotten.
People are told to be selfless, not selfish.
People are told to put others before themselves, that they themselves don’t matter if you don’t help others.
If you don’t help others then you are a self-centered, selfish, idiotic, pig who only cares about yourself.
But then they turn around and ignore everyone who needs their help, that they can help but just walk past.
They completely ignore people who are striving to accept themselves for who they are and instead break them down like a trash compactor crushing garbage.
She was 8 years old when she talked about running away from home because she wanted a different family.
She said she didn’t want us as her family.
It was several hours of screaming and crying and punching before she calmed down and apologizes but the wounds and bruises didn’t fade.
She was 9 years old when she tried to kill herself for the first time.
Mom said she had to wrestle knives from her hands.
Mom still has scars and bruises from her nails and feet.
When she was 10 years old, she came home crying. Snot and tears streaming down her face.
Her best friend in the world had decided that after a playdate that she was a liar, that she didn’t want to be friends anymore. She decided to go from her best friend in the world to her worst bully.
She suffers everyday, crying herself to sleep every night.
She asks why her sisters have to leave after only two days of seeing us.
She is bullied everyday, her brain scrambling to understand why the kids hate her so much.
If you say depression goes away when the bullying stops, then you are wrong!
The bullying may stop, but that doesn’t mean the depression and suicide will.
What people can’t seem to comprehend is that kids are cruel. They don't understand how cruel they can be.
How can they? How can they understand when they don’t have that underlying fear that one day they will get a call from their mother saying their little sister succeed? Succeeded in taking her life so she no longer burns like a candle.
I am so terrified that I will get that call, the call that says my little 10 year old sister who has so much to live for killed herself.
All because kids had the audacity to tell her that she didn’t deserve to have friends because she was different.
So yeah, kids can be cruel. But take a moment to think.
Who taught them that that behavior was ok?
Who raised them that way?
I absolutely love this.. it's deep, and unfortunately all to true. this needs to spread. :/
